Jim Sturgess in One Day

Jim Sturgess is a British actor and singer. He is the lead actor of the romantic film "One Day" which is adapted from the David Nicholl's novel with the same title. The movie is divided into chapters which covers the on July 15th(or the St. Swithin's Day) of the twenty years lives of two people, Dexter and Emma. It features the transformation of their friendship, longing, lives' despairs and tragedies, and love for each other.

The author of the novel wrote in "The Times", "For, in spite of its comic gloss, One Day is really about loneliness and the casual savagery of fate; the tragic gap between youthful aspiration and the compromises that we end up tolerating. Not for nothing has Nicholls said that it was inspired by Thomas Hardy."

One Day is more than just a love story, it gives the audience a picture of real life. A critic says that the story does not tell a fairy tale but instead, it explores the side of growing up, the regrets, disillusionment, and cruelty of life.
